The ancient sage Jabal Rishi who wrote Jabalopanished belonged to the sect of Bhaskar and was the official Sanyasi Vaidya ( Doctor, who had renounced the world ) in the Royal court of king of Kashi ( Varanasi ). At that time the knowledge used to be passed on from Guru to Shishya by word of mouth and not much was being written. His treatments used to be based on Rudraksha , and he became so popular with the rich and the common people that Rudraksha got linked to Sanyasis. Even today a person wearing Rudraksha is considered to be pious and spiritual. Due to the popularity of Rudraksha in India. One British officer John Garret collected lot of useful information on Rudraksha in the year 1864. His contemporary Mr.Kerber Drvry also published useful information on this bead. Dr. Abraham Jajuar, an American did extensive work on medical properties and his conclusion was that Rudraksha effects the mental process and for any type of mind related diseases and stress etc it is very effective.

It is known that injection made from rudraksha oil is exported from Indonesia to China, but the application is kept a secret. Similarly the research work being carried out at University of Cologne (Germany), International University at Florida Miami, as well as in Switzerland is also expected to reveal the scientific explanation for magnetic and other effects of rudraksha on human body, if and when the reports are made public.

In India proper scientific studies have not been carried out on this bead. Occasional research work carried out by various scientists or individual research institutions has been insignificant. Mr.Subas Rai of Institute of Technology, Banares Hindu University India with involvement of Department of Biochemistry, Electrical Engineering, Psychiatry, and General Medicine and Psychology, have conducted useful research work on these beads proving that Rudraksha has Electromagnetic, Paramagnetic and Inductive properties, which vary for different mukhis or facets. This is remarkable that seed from the natural division is different. This research also indicates that when someone does Japa using fingers touching Rudraksha beads, specific electrical impulses are sent to the brain centers that transfer the information.

Dr.S.S.Bhattacharya, Dr. P.K.Sarkar, Dr.P. Chakraborty, and Dr.A.K.Barua conducted various studies in the year 1970 and proved the Electromagnetism acting through Rudraksha.

To understand Rudraksha properly we may once again go through the mythological aspect. As mentioned in earlier ancient scriptures, name 'Rudraksha'consists of two words. "Rudra and Aksh". Rudra means the one who is Fearsome (Yadroded tadrusya rudatvam ) and the one who is crying. In Tettareeya Shruti and later Sayanacharya, they describe Rudraksha as " Rodayati Sarvamant kaale iti Rudrah" means the one crying at the end and as such indicate its relationship with death.

In Rigved, Rudra has been described as the medium level God because in its praise there are only three prayers. At other places it has been symbolized as Soma, also as a great doctor who has capability to cure all diseases. German reformer Prof.Weber considered Rudra as a symbol of sound. Some other intellectuals consider it as sound of the universe. Dr.Mcdonald considers Rudra as a thunder from sky consisting of sound and electricity ( thunderbolt ). In Atherva veda, anger and destructive abilities is accepted as Mahadeo, Bhava and Sharva.

In YajurVed, Rudra gets transformed to an acceptable form of God who is compassionate, kind and help full. It is here that Rudra is refered as Shiva, Shivatar, Bhava Sharva, Ugra, Mahadev, etc. In Yajurved Rudra is referred as "Trayambak" for the first time ( means having three years )After the Vedic period Brahman period, Rudra become one fearsome God. Rudra destroyed the Yajne of mountain king Daksha. In later period Rudra is accepted as God of Universe. In the Pauranik verses Mt. Everest( Kailash ) becomes his abode. In Prajapati Brahman, Rudra's four names having fearsome qualification which as Rudra, Shrava, Ugra and Ashani another four names being Bhava, Pashupati, Ishan and Mahadev indicating his peaceful aspects. With many changes in his form, Rudra ultimately with several thousand years of history becomes a loveable God, whose temples are found in every village in India and even in several other countries. With this description Rudraksha gets associated with a powerful God.

In ancient times particularly in the Pauranik times each name of a living or non living used to have a specific meaning. Like in case of Latin language each given name is linked to some meaning connected to its characteristics. Hence we must understand that the name Rudraksha is significantly assigned to a bead, which has power to conquer fear. Including fear of death. It is this property, which is singularly responsible to control stress, to bring calmness and to stabilize a person. Ultimately the blood pressure and disease, which are aftermath of hypertension, get cured. Eg. - Stomach disorder, Acidity, ingestion, loss of sleep and so many others.

In one of the experiment conducted by Vasantrao Vaidya, it was found that the Ionization value of Rudraksha gets changed with time during the "Electron water conductivity" test. Distilled and aerated water were used and Rudraksha dipped in 150 ml water at 50 C. For different durations. The results were:

The above result testifies the electrical energy of Rudraksha. It has been also found that Rudraksha has electromagnetic power of 7 millivolts, which is equal to what is found in most human bodies. Therefore when some scientists gives opinion that Rudraksha mala is like an antena where in all negative energy get neutralised is correct.

For the infection in body, swelling and pain, Rudraksha is useful for all mind related disease. It is highly beneficial for breathing problems, fever, cold, sleepnessness, liver function, blood-pressure etc. Rudraksha is considered to be a sure medicine.

As per Yogsar, if Rudraksha is worn around heart it is good for controlling blood pressure and heart disease.

Rudraksha is both for preventive and curative purposes. Either you wear the beads or use its power, bhasm ( after slow burning the remaining ash ), or use as paste and apply on body or use water after dipping beads into it. As per one of the studies on blood pressure, out of 466 volunteers 412 got cured which proves 88 % success. For mental disorder out of 92 volunteers 74 persons got cured giving a success rate of 80 %. During the period from 1998 to 2004, thousands of persons whom the author advised for wearing and using water therapy or in any other form, got cured of their ailments, like blood pressure, mental disorder and body pains and even dreadful diseases like cancer. Due to non- medical objection, no record has been kept but it creates a background to carry forward further work properly to fully exploit the curative power of Rudraksha.

Rudraksha has the power to give the human body a protection shield to fight fear, mental disorders and hypertension. Electromagnetism of Rudraksha, acting on nervous system and brain controls the thought process with positive energy and it regulates the whole human metabolism.

Now, to understand why Rudraksha affects the human mind and body is a little easier after knowing the mythological relevance of name Rudra and various studies carried out by scientists and Doctors. Yet another approach is to understand relationship between mind and body as It is now accepted by all that we get ill health, sufferings, sadness and all negativity due to state of mind. The inner consciousness we develop is the result of food we take and how we train our mind. "Annam hi pranah" which means the food is life and inner conscious. The food we take goes in the body in three parts: Bulk part: it goes away from body as residue. Medium part: This helps maintain vital parts functioning and for life support. Fine part: affects the inner consciousness. It depends on what type of food we have eaten whether it was Satwik food ( fresh and stable with juices and butter) or it was Rajasi ( salty, sontaining more chillies, sour, very hot, non vegetarian ) or a Tamasi food ( spoiled, smelling with repulsive taste, dry ). According to this the feelings and approach towards life also get developed. A Satwik person will think logically, will be helpful, calm and kind. Full of energy and curiosity. A Rajasi person will indulge more in Kaam (sex), anger, ego, and will have a wavering mind, and will be money minded. The Tamasik person will be lazy, confused, sleepy, sad and careless. The entire body and nervous system works according to the state of mind and it is here that Rudraksha plays a role to simulate its Electromagnetic power with that of the body and help opening of various charkras located at different parts of body. For example it is recommended to use a 14 mukhi Rudraksha on the forehead or wear around neck but touch the forehead with Rudraksha for few minutes daily and this helps in opening of the Ajna chakra located between the two eyebrows. Another important aspect of Rudraksha performance is acupressure, which is well known for its beneficial powers. When Rudraksha bead or mala is worn on the body it causes soft acupressure over the body. Now the tool by which this pressure is being caused is a divine tool having Electromagnetic properties. In this method there are several Electro life currents (Meridiaus) flowing through the body, which cure different diseases. Out of several Meridiaus, 14 Meridiaus are important. For cough and cold the bhasm ( Residue of Rudraksha after slow burning ) of Rudraksha should be taken with honey. There are hundreds of such treatments given in various books available in the market and authenticity of all these has to be proved medically.
