Traditional Ayurvedic Medicine makes good use of the gifts from the Rudraksa
Tree to treat many different diseases.
All kinds of Rudraksa Beads are commonly used.
It is believed that those who wear Rudraksa do not suffer from high blood pressure
and according to some physicians this fact bears mention in Ayurvedic Medicine.
Another treatment for high blood pressure is to place one to three 5 Mukhi
Rudraksas in a glass of water before going to sleep at night and then drinking
in the morning on an empty stomach. The treatment lasts 30 days and the water
needs to be in a water glass made of glass.
When anyone suffers from small pox or chicken pox the treatment is to rub the
seed or fruit on a clean stone and the paste is given to the patient to eat.
This paste is also listed as a preventative treatment for poxes.
Another mention found in text.
If a 10 Mukhi Rudraksa Bead is rubbed with milk and its paste eaten then old
cough is cured.
Six Mukhi Rudraksa is said to give relief from epilepsy and hysteria.
There is also a listing in text that if Four Mukhi Rudraksa is boiled in milk
and ingested daily for 20 days relief from brain diseases is expected.
Preparation and application methods seen here is Rudraksa Mala worn around
neck, Rudraksa Beads soaked in water, powder mixed with milk to form a paste
and then Rudraksa Beads boiled in Milk.
There are 6 common species of Rudraksa Tree that are generally used as an alternative
treatment for disease.
Elaeocarpus floribundus
Infusion of bark and leaves used as mouth wash for inflamed gums
Elaeocarpus giganitrus or sphaericus
The fruit is used in the diseases of head and epileptic fits.
Elaeocarpus oblongus
The fruit is used as an emetic to induce vomiting and for rheumatism, pneumonia,
ulcers, leprosy, dropsy and piles.
Elaeocarpus petiolatus
Juice of leaves is used in treatment of malaria as an application for fever.
Elaeocarpus tuberculatus
Decoction of the bark is used as a remedy for rheumatism, indigestion and biliousness.
Rudraksa Beads or seeds are used as a treatment for rheumatism, typhoid fever
and epilepsy.
Standard procedure to determine strength and frequency of dosage is based on
individual experimentation with the different methods of preparation and application.
If anyone has traditional family recipes for the medicinal use of the different
gifts of the Rudraksa Tree the entire world would be grateful for your help
in documenting this important information.
For anyone who would like to study preparation and application methods there
is a beautiful chapter in the book The Yoga of Herbs by David Frawley that is
titled How to Prepare and Use Herbs According to Ayurveda.
